Arlene Edwards, CSP
Owner of Safety & Health Consulting Services
Arlene has been in the safety and occupational health profession since 1981. She founded S&HC in 1996 as President and owner. She assists companies in developing comprehensive safety and health systems, performing safety and health audits and inspections, conducting industrial hygiene monitoring and noise surveys, and conducting a variety of safety and health training courses.
Arlene's previous work history includes working as a NC Department of Labor (DOL) OSHA Compliance Officer (both safety and industrial hygiene). Among her duties with OSHNC, Arlene chaired the department's penalty task force to develop criteria for evaluating workplace safety and health plans. Additionally, Arlene spent almost eight years as a civilian safety and occupational health specialist with the Department of the Navy, specializing in explosives and industrial safety and health.
In January 2016, Arlene was appointed by the NC Governor to serve as the Chairman of the Safety and Health Review Commission of NC. Arlene was awarded the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) in 2014 for the ASSP NC Chapter and SPY in 2016 for ASSP Region VI.
Arlene is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Professional Member and past president of the NC Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals, and past President of the Central Carolina Occupational Safety & Health School Board. Arlene is qualified as a Federal OSHA Outreach Instructor in both General Industry and Construction. Arlene is a graduate of UNC-Asheville.
Roy T. Edwards
Safety Consultant and Trainer
Roy has been the Operations Manager and safety consultant for S&HC since 1996. He assists our client construction companies in developing a safety culture through site safety assist visits, safety meetings, training, and procedure/policy development. Additionally, Roy works with many of our general industry and construction clients in providing respirator fit testing, forklift operator training, and NCDOT Flagger Training. Roy is a qualified Federal OSHA Outreach Instructor for Construction.
Roy retired as a Colonel after serving 28 years as a fixed-wing fighter pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. During this time, he demonstrated success in aviation-related senior management positions and successfully managed safety and health programs. He oversaw ground and flight safety programs to ensure an accident-free record and compliance with regulatory standards. He previously served as a member of an aircraft accident board and conducted aviation accident investigations.
Roy holds a B.S. Degree from Northwestern State University and a Masters Degree in Research & Development & Environmental Science from American University. Roy is an active member of the Cary Page Rotary Club.
